Exterior lighting advice

Featured Replies

Going to change my exterior lighting layout a bit and wondered if there was anyone that can advise me.

Currently have one PIR activated halogen flood (500W iirc) covering the main area of the garden which I want to replace with an LED one. We park at the rear of the house as do most relatives and friends when visiting.

Garden at the rear has a return at the back of the garage meaning if anyone is coming in that way they are in darkness due to the 6ft fence.

What I want to do is put a PIR activated LED flood at the rear of the house replacing the current one and a new one on the garage covering the drive area so that as soon as we leave the rear of the house it is lit until we reach the parking and vice versa for people visiting. So either PIR will activate both floods.

How do I go about wiring them to allow this? Diagram of the garden attached for clarity

The switched live from the PIR to the lamp on each fitting would need to be connected to each other.

Use four core cable for the runs between each PIR so that the switched live can be connected at both ends.

Ummm...

I can see how to do it if the PIRs are separate from the lamps. If it's an all-in-one unit (usually) though, there'd only need to be a single live, neutral and earth (maybe?!?)  cable.

One advantage of separate PIRs is you have a choice of lamp fittings.

That might make my mind up as to how to set it up.

Pir in the corners to pick up the movements and lights at garage door and kitchen door.
