Just bought a 2011 1.8 SE Plus, some help and advice please

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have just bought a 2011 Octavia 1.8 SE Plus and have a couple of queries:

It did not come with a spare wheel (just the pump and repair fluid stuff), now I would like a full size spare (probably steel to keep costs down) it has 205/55/16 tyres.  Can I simply buy a wheel off ebay for a VAG car that has the correct size tyre on it (e.g. this one for a Golf / Bora), or do I need to be more precise?  I would also like the "Spare kit" (e.g. the polystyrene insert that contains the jack, wrench etc.) This one on Skodaparts.com states it is for the VRS, L&K and Scout 16", would this be ok?  The image for the 15" and 16" versions seem to be identical.

Also the car is a QG1 (Variable) service interval.  The manual says to use VW 504 00 oil, I would like to keep a litre or two of this in the boot for topping up.  What oil would you recommend and where is good to get it from?

Many thanks

There were 2 wheel sizes for the mk2 spare a 15" and 16" rim so it will depend on what size rims you have on it. I bought the official space saver kit for mine at about £110 IIRC so can't say what other standard wheels would fit but someone will know. Regarding servicing variable is the standard option from the factory, though if the new owner was going to do under 10k miles a year it should be on the fixed service regime rather than variable as that's only really aimed at high mileage motorway drivers. How many services has yours had so far and what type were they? If its not in the service book the dealer will have the details electronically if its a main SUK one. Cheers.

205/55/16 tyre would be on an ally wheel, best stick with that.

the polystyrene insert that contains the jack, wrench etc can be bought after market.

Get the 16" with size tire mentioned.

Look where are scrapyards near you and get everything off an octavia.
