Petrol Vrs low mileage servicing

Featured Replies

Hi chaps. I have a 2011 Octy and need some advice on servicing. We do around 5000 miles a year in the car and have it on time/ distance servicing. The local Skoda dealer (Swindon) has quoted £416 for the service & MOT. The car is at 51k. DSG oil was done at 40k

Is this right for a (major?) service.

As I've done less than 5k since the last service am I better having another oil change service this time?

I'm also considering using a local independent VAG specialist who quoted £296

Any advice is appreciated.

MOT can be up to low fifties, if the place doesn't discount from the allowed price.

If the DSG oil was changed at 40, and you're doing 5k/yr, it's not due for 2 years.

OTOH spark plugs are now due on time (or overdue on distance; that would say they should have been done at 40, and aren't due again for 2 years on time).

Phoned back and queried the price, it was revised to: £139 for the (oil) service, £40 for the MOT test and £49 for a brake fluid change. Think with the mileage I'm doing I'll get a basic service done each year and add the other bits or do them myself when needed.

Good idea. I do about the same in my weisle and even with modern synthetic oil I prefer to get the oil changed every 12 months.
