Front door speaker size

Featured Replies

Now I've done the bass and the rear speakers, I'm looking at replacing the speakers in the front doors. I fancy components, I'd like to replace both the mids and the tweeters ideally.

Anyone know the size of the standard speakers, including the depth? The replacements I'm looking at are something like:

6.5", but you need very shallow ones or they'll hit the metal work and/or the glass.

Those are probably both too deep.

Not much room behind the speakers huh? Might have to build some adapters...

Lloyd55vrs is your man to ask re this sort of stuff, very knowledgeable chap - send him a pm.

Me :D

Knowledgeable lol

U can get deeper fronts in but just have to adjust

There is a small lug on the bottom left ( when look at pass door )

U can tap this back or remove it, then touch it with paint to cover bare metal

Also the foam liner has a subken round section

You can cut this around the bottom so it acts like a umbrella

Ive got jl audio c5's front and rear

Tweeters the trick is to get

buytl / a glue gun and a soldering iron

U can melt thr oem tweeter holder down to size

Put a ring of buytl around the tweeter then tack it all in with hot glue

If you get a crossover u can hollow out the foam in the doorcard

65mm the c5s are :D

Also im unsure how u spell byutl ? bbuytl ?

The rubbery sticky weirdy awesome handy stuff lol

:) thanks for the info guys. I suppose the alternative is to get a spare set of grilles and chop them so the new grille is on show, but I don't really want to go down that route...

You can get shallow mounts, focal do a nice set but abit more than your other 2 optiond

I had some fairly high end Kenwoods in my Mk1, with a tiny ceramic magnet. Not the bassiest speakers but a lovely sounds with a sub in the boot.

I might still have them in the loft somewhere.

Might buy them off you for a few quid plus postage, if you can find them. If they fit in the standard apeture behind the grille ;) Bass isn't a massive issue as I've got a 12" in a box in the boot, just want something that gives clarity and doesn't fart when driven a bit...

Hasnt the head unit got any adjustment for hpf mate ? So can take the lows off the front abit ?
