Auq VRS When Should The Timing Belt Be Replaced?

Featured Replies

Hi, my octy vrs has 108k and i dont have any proof of timing belt being done, so want to get it changed soon its not making any noise or showing any sign of wear so just trying to work out at what mileage should it be replaced?..

VW recommend every 60k or 5yrs whichever comes soonest. However Skoda say every 40k or 4 years for the same AUQ engine!!

Funny I was wondering this too. Just bought my Octy VRs at 100k, no suggestion of it ever been replaced

The service book says 120k, but I have booked for mine next Monday.

Would be heartbroken if I ran it and it snapped. Car would be a writeoff!

Mine was last done at 60k 4 years ago and now needs doing again reluctantly going to have to go ahead although all running well local reliable mechanic quotes £300 incl water pump and bits all Skoda parts

This old chestnut lol. Go with 4-5 years pretty much regardless of mileage unless you drive to the moon and back. Recognised best before date for the belts is around 5-6 years but that includes shelf life, plus the impellor on the water pump are likely to be getting brittle and breaking up after 4/5 years anyway. Belt often outlasts the pump to be honest.

Mines going in for a service on Monday and asked about the cam belt as done every 4yrs and thought it was dew, Skoda said its now every 5yrs or 100000 miles.

100000? Holy Moley, given the erratic and contradictionary mileage limit I'd stick to the 4-5 years. In terms of mileage as a matter of interest mines been done twice on 35000 and when it was done with me around 70k the blades on the water pump were beginning to break up. On that basis I'd consider 40k the mileage limit in terms of strain on associated components. As said above I tend to think in terms of the best before date of the belt itself, will always keep that pump that was beginning to fail at 35k in mind.

I had to ask twice it's taken nearly 9 years to do that many, lol . I'm sticking to 4/5 years to.

I have it done every 4 years

Better that than the alternative :(

Ive had it done twice and only just cleared 18k

What about the mk2 2ltr turbo petrol unit anyone know intervals they should be changed at

I know this in wrong section but this thread is regarding something i was going to nake a thread about
