help me! driver door wont open at all

Featured Replies

Hey. So recently my keyfob hasnt been working for central locking so ive been opening driver door with key and opening the rest of the doors and boot with the buttons on the driver door. Now the driver door wont open from the outside or inside! It looks like its open from the outside. So I cant lock the rest of the doors as I probably need to get in the passenger side now! Any help? Its kinda urgent lol! Also the door handle from the inside feels quite loose, if thats any help?

Sounds like the cable may have popped off from inside the inside handle. There's a plastic nipple that can get unhooked, or there's a problem at the mech end. For some reason cable isn't pulling the mech anyway. In terms of getting it open to find out you can try thumping the door just below the handle as you turn the key. Soon as it's open get the door card off and check it out. Failing that you may have to kill a few clips getting the card off with the door shut.

Your remote central locking issue could be associated with the multiplug/window motor module. Water ingress corrodes pins, check out stuff in the tech section and do a search, loads of stuff on this in this forum. I know it sounds daft but did you try a new battery in the fob?

Try basic stuff first, obviously after opening door, wiring, loom, multiplug, handle cable. There are places where the loom gets fatigued through door pillars and near window regulator runners. Check as much as you can before spending money.

lol I was just typing something similar but clearly my 2 words a minute no match :D

Hahaha you gota be quick!

If it is the outer of the door release cable that has popped out of its fixing last time the door card was put back you may be able to this:

Follow the procedure for taking off the grab handle and arm rest mounted controls. This will leave you with an access hole into the door.

Fish around and see if you can find the door release cable (it is covered in a spiky rubber moulding). Then get something like a long pair of pliers to grip it very firmly, take out the slack then hold it still while someone operates the adjacent door release.

I don't know if the inner of the cable goes to the mechanism or to the outside door handle so assuming it goes to the mechanism this may work. Never tried it myself but worth a try in your circumstances as both door releases are inoperative at the moment.

Best of luck!

Yeah at the mech end the cable hooks onto a plate on the face of it, the cable for the exterior handle is a short one that comes out the top of the mech. Separate cable it is, the outer cable has the teeth that sit in the grooves at the end of the handle. It's not impossible that the outer cable could have popped out or for some reason not giving enough tension to pull the catch when you use the handle.

By the way if you need a replacement inner cable I could take one off my old nackered lock mech.

Thanks for the help, ill try this later hopefully itll work.

The central locking doesnt work with the fob because I put an aftermarket stereo in, and I just chose not to use the central locking after that as my original stereo didnt work lol central locking DID work fine if I switched it back round to the original, doesnt now though.
