What steering wheels fit an Mk1 Octavia?

Featured Replies

The steering wheel on my mk1 octavia tdi (2004) has seen better days so i have decided to change it

I was just wondering what other steering wheels will fit both spline wise and air bag wise?

Mine is the standard 4 spoke wheel

Ive heard that the octy vrs, Mk4 golf, Bora, A3 etc fit but would I be able to connect the air bag that comes with the new wheel to my car without any problems and just throw my existing wheel and airbag away?

Thanks in advance

That all have the same airbag connection. I fitted a vRS wheel and airbag on my 2002 Tdi with no issues. Hope that helps?

Ok thanks. Looking at pictures online, the mk4 golf gti wheel looks near identical to the octavia vrs one, I take it I could just buy a mk4 golf gti wheel and airbag and fit it straight in without any airbag issues?

Yes you could if you don't mind a VW badge on your Škoda?

Thanks for the offer, the wheel looks in great condition and is a good price but like you i quite fancy the vrs wheel

Try Jason Simons he's on here and is breaking a vRS.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery before fitting.

For models with steering wheel controls, I take it the connection for the cruise control etc. is the same?

You can still replace your multifunction with VRS type but you will loose all the function that your old steering wheel has. If you have cruise control on you indicator stalk then you wont loose this.

The only MkI I knew to have steering wheel controls was an L&K.

Ok thanks for the replies everyone.

So could I fit a mk1 Audi TT steering wheel (with the audi airbag) on to my octavia as a straight swap without any issues?

Yes.

You can also peel off the Audi badge and get Skoda one from eBay so it is as it should. But be careful with that so the airbag does not shoots.

Yup

I stand corrected then, it's very unusual to have them on Mk1's unless L&K, might have been an option I suppose.

Ambiente SE was a run out model with the 130bhp PD engine and some other twiddly bits.

Wouldn't have had a clue lol, this is my first experience with an Octavia, other than taxi rides :D

They're as rare as hens teeth, the were only sold for a few months before the mkII came out in 2004.

Yes it will and airbag connector should be the same. Also note that the same steering wheel has been used on Superb mk1.
