DNS510/810 units

Featured Replies

Yo shiney happy people,

Not here for 6 months and then a flurry of activity, you lucky lucky people. :p

So, I have 2007 Scout (MaxiDot and MFSW) with an updated gateway and an RNS 510 (1T0 035 680 P) with MDI connected, however, I could do with some bluetooth and I have a sub sitting the garage which I'm determined will not go into offsprung's Uncle Festa.

Going the OEM Bluetooth way seems stupidly expensive to me, as I'll need a BT unit and probably a PolarFIS o make it all work properly. I like OEM but there are limits to how much I'm going to spend. I have seen the DNS 510 and 810 (Other than fascia layout/larger screen, really can't see any difference). Seems to have MaxiDot integration, RVC (oh, ah, yes have one on the Scout already) and some decent options (inc. RCA outputs for the sub :) )

The only thing I seem to lose is the HDD for music, but given the SDCard slot on the DNS, hardly seems a loss really. Would be nice to have DAB, but only listen to one station (Chill, as 4Extra really sucks now) and I can do that through the phone. Also has USB input to replace the MDI (yeah, got a Lightning cable for MDI as well, been used for all of about 10 minutes as all of a sudden the ex wasn't a fan of the music on her iPhone!)

DNS units prices are £280 odd, and RNS510's still are good money, so this seems a bit of a no-brainer to me.

Anyone have any experience of these units? Good or bad, all commments welcome. :) :)

What's the navigation like? How easy are the updates?

Is the sound quality any good?

Thanks :)
