Diesel or Petrol?

Although there are threads where some unfortunate forum members have had a few problems, I think an 'issue' is something best described as endemic within the vehicle from the word go.

If that's the case then no, I'm not aware of any except possibly a faulty batch of boost sensors on the Diesel which are sorted under warranty.

Id probably just suggest buying as later a car as you can. Early Octavias tend to suffer with the most issues (build and paint quality related in the main)...also the majority of the very early vRS launch vehicles were of an odd specification....standard pictoris wheels (not that they are bad) and no sound generator (again for some not so bad) but then also did without Cruise and no spec other than sunset glass and/or Black pack. Newer cars come with anthracite geminis which are arguably the best looking wheel and from MY15 (May 2014) they all came with standard cruise control.

Also just do be very aware that a 2.0 TSI will use alot more fuel than your 1.2 TSI in most real world circumstances. The car is capable of 40+ mpg if driven like a saint but mid/low 30's perhaps even high 20's is the more likely figure you'll see if you drive it around on strong boost all the while.

The TDI will be significantly quicker than the 1.2, particularly in the mid-range and will offer you similar if not better economy to the TSI. Its also cheaper to tax and also most likely insure.

Yes 40MPG possible, but certainly not on short journeys in the winter.

Manual or DSG?  The DSG setup / software isn't to everyone's liking, particularly on the TDI.  Nothing wrong with it, as such, but it is tuned for economy rather than speed, unless you stick it in Sport mode then it revs to high heaven.

In that post you've listed two reasons not to get the Metal grey, 1500 euro for the full leather (electric seats?) and the canton system, the leather option is £925 and the Canton system £500.

I personally would go with the black(pain to keep clean) but as you stated yourself you want the better sounds, plus those next door will realise you have a new car.

Well ha d a big big think and decided i can live with bolero standard touchscreen stereo and upgrade later if i decide so and i actually prefer the half leather combo seats after revisiting the garage...and i must say it just looked absolutley cool..and elegant and powerful and classy..on reflection the black looked great when cleaned and polished but a nightmare to remain that way..and the metal grey has a kind of understated look like its playing with you..the red calipers and spoiler and back reflector the main giveaways ..that and youve just left all others dead behind you at the lights lol..only messing...so hoping to get it after all other checks and valeting by wed/thurs this week..saving myself 1500 too and it is only a few weeks old 2000kms only ..was being driven by garage senior sales rep...so am happy with my choice..can always get fitted with an aftermarket subwoofer /amplifier etc..out of my 1500 saving ..im a truly happy camper now:)
