high engine revs at tick over

Featured Replies

hi , when I pulled up at work today noticed engine was ticking over at 1000 rpm normally its about 6.500 or 7000 didn't turn the engine off but went for a quick nip up the motorway thinking the car was doing a dpf regen . when I got back it was back to normal rev's , could I have just switched the engine off whilst it was revving higher than normal or did I do the right thing ? hope this all makes sense , thanks eddie

Not surprised some dealers give sniffy answers to prospective customers. 6,500 -7000 rpm is beyond the red line. Get real. Perhaps you meant 650-700 rpm. :nerd:

Depends how long or short your journey to work is. I have no idea what you meant.

Recently in cold weather mine was idling at 1000 rpm but dropped to the normal lower value when warmed up.

Hi edd, the engine was doing a regen as you thought. Mine does exactly the same thing when it is. Yes you did do the right thing by going for a blast for it to do its job. As for the answer above, just no need.

Cheers pal - had the car over 2 years first time I've noticed it doing a regen when I've come to or about to turn the engine off

You won't cause massive problems switching off the engine during a regen. The ECU will log it as a failed regen and attempt to perform a regen when you are next driving in acceptable conditions for a regen to take place.

100% a regen, taking it back out meant you gave it the opportunity to finish the regen!

When I turn mine off during a regen (it always starts one 2 mins from home!) the car is baking hot, lots of clicking and pinging from the exhaust and that familiar smell that you sometimes get after a hard and spirited drive  :D
