hi i have a 56 octavia tdi was driving and the abs light came on and beeped aswell as a few other warning lights the speedo stoped working and the fuel guage went crazy any ideas?

A common fault that triggers the ABS light is a faulty sensor close to the hubs on the rear wheels.

 

The dead speedo and fuel gauge hint at a different issue however.

 

It sounds like you might be needing to get the cars fault codes read using VCDS, the ABS light should have triggered a fault code.

It was suggested it could possible be the abs module that is at fault but would this affect the speedo?. The steering is heavy aswell

Getting the car scanned with VCDS would be the first thing to do, otherwise everything is speculation and you could end up replacing parts needlessly.

 

The fault could be anything from an ABS speed sensor, to the steering angle sensor.
