buffer/bump stops - help needed please

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have bought H&R comfort cup suspension kit from fellow member here and want to put new bump stops all around as the rear ones are ripped apart and the fronts could be in similar state. As the kit gives 35mm drop I think I'd go with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221631013529 for rears (original height is 133mm) but struggle to find out which one are the right for front.

The inner leg of the front absorber has 25mm diameter, the thread on top is 14mm. Looking at Febi's website there is not bump stop with this values but the closest one is Febi 23458 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/23458-Febi-Bilstein-Rubber-Buffer-suspension-Skoda-OCTAVIA-Combi-/191378861191?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda|Model%3AOctavia|Cars+Year%3A2008&hash=item2c8f11ac87. Is this the correct size or do I need different one?

Also I believe the original dust covers will fit am I right?

Car is 2008 2.0 PD140, BKD.

Thanks

Dal

the specs do look a bit odd, here is the one for a standard elegance but guess you are after a shorter one?

if you are not planning to change the length of the stop you can probably re-use the front ones as mine were fine even at 140k but the rear ones were shot

Outside diameter 56 mm,  Inside diameter(1) 23.2 mm,  Height  70 mm, Inside diameter(2) 27.5 mm

I'm not sure if for 35mm drop the shorter ones are needed or standard size can be used.

I never did this kind of job before so don't even know how exactly is the bump stop attached to the strut but if the H&R has 25mm diameter, wouldn't be inside diameter of 27.5 a bit big?

the original ones you have quoted for the front should be fine as they have the same part number as these ones which fit the VRS which is lowered hence 15mm reduction in bump stop height.  You would trim the bump stops when lowering if you find it riding a the stops as this makes the ride bouncy so if you are replacing the stops it makes sense to go for some shorter VRS ones rather than replace with standard elegance ones.

the bump stop for the front is wedged on top of the strut mount so I don't think exact internal diameter is that important.

the original dust covers will also be fine as they attached to the top mount so the shock does not affect it.
