Exhaust Question

Featured Replies

So my Octy VRS when I bought it came with a cat back piper exhaust, now I quite like the sound it makes, nice and deep, but as I'm up at 5 and out the doors early my neighbours are starting to get a little ****ed off with me waking them up, my missus thinks I rev it in the morning which I don't.

So being sort of new to all this what would be involved in replacing it back to stock, is it a simple case of getting a stock back box , bear in mind I don't have much of a clue about cat back and the like so be nice lol....

Sounds like it could be non-resonated middle, see if you can get a resonated middle section, should make it a little quieter, two other options move house or keep annoying the neighbours :D

Makes it worse as I live in a kind of culdesac, so it like echoes around the place. Had the same problem with a motorbike I had a few years ago, but that was simple id just put the baffle back in.

As andy68 says stick your head under car and see if there is a box where exhaust runs under petrol tank area,

If its a non resonated system it will have cat, straight pipe, backbox,

If its a resonated system it will have cat, centre box, backbox,

The 1.8t's do tend to rev quiet high when started from cold as they warm up and apparently the pipers are louder than the millteks

If your qfter standard exhaust and want to swap let me know

I have a non res piper cat back system, it was quite load so I got hold of piper and asked how much they would charge for a res middle section. They told me they don't do res for my car. I got a small stainless silencer on eBay for just over £60 I think. Made quite a difference but still sounds nice when you put your toe down.

Thanks for that link williburp, is this an easy thing to fit myself or would I need a garage to do it..

Really easy, I fitted mine with the car on ramps on my drive. I marked it just after the bracket and cut it with a 1mm disk on a grinder, 1mm disk is better as the pipe is stainless. The pipes will slide right inside the silencer ends, I then used those t clamp things coz they look better than u clamps. Job done
