Intermittent screen wiper

Featured Replies

Hi all i can't seem to work the intermittent screen wipe if I put it on it does one wipe at the start then nothing. But if it's raining then it seems to works ok as automatic,How can the same switch position do two different things ? As the manual says this is the switch position for intermittent and automatic

that's correct if you have auto wipers you leave the stalk in the intermittent position and the rain sensor takes over.

It is intermittent OR automatic depending on which is fitted to the car.  The car has one or the other, not both.

Assuming you have an Elegance spec car then you have the rain sensor.

You put it in the intermittent position to enable the auto wipers. The switch on top of the stalk then adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor.

Haha i see yes i have the rain sensors

It works quite well but I found that sometimes it gets bored and goes off into a world of its own. Once that happens then it either comes round and starts wiping frantically (as if it were feeling guilty) or I get bored waiting and switch it off and on again, at which point the whole cycle starts again.

For motorway journeys though I prefer to use RainX, letting the screen clear itself with the wipers off most of the time.

It can be a bit... err... temperamental sometimes.

I have found you have to keep the windscreen and wipers really clean. As soon as it smears over the sensor it just sends the wipers into a frenzy!

Have you played around with the switch on the top to adjust the sensitivity?

What happens if you code out the rain sensor?

I have a feeling it would revert back to normal...

I coded a Superb SE the other way round (had normal intermittent but the sensor but auto wipers were disabled).

So it's an option for people without auto headlights to code it out?
