Fitting A Sony Cd-radio To 1999 Octavia

Featured Replies

About 3 months ago I fitted a new Sony CDXL480X Cd-stereo to my Felicia estate. I worked fine. I have just changed car to a 1999 Octavia. I transferred the stereo over, and while it works when the ignition is on, there is no power when the ignition is turned off, resulting in all settings being lost, ie pre-programmed radio stations etc.

Anyone any ideas of how this can be fixed? Have I missed some connection in the Octavia that was not needed for correct functioning in the Felicia?

Is this for when the ignition is off and the key is still in the ignition in the "off" position. It's a skoda thing that as soon as you remove the key from the ignition the radio cuts out (and likewise if you want to listen to it when not driving you need to flick the ignition to on, then off, to make the stereo come alive.

If it's not this, then I can't help anymore. I'm not a stereo wiring expert at all.

On the sony wiring you will have a red and yellow wire , usually with bullet connectors half way along.

Just swap them round red to yellow and vice versa and that should do the trick.

Not necessarily. At least on the Symphony HU in the Octy RS you can set it to be available with the ignition off. The HU still switches off if you stop the engine and pull the key, in which case you just switch the HU off and back on again and it powers up. There's some sort of auto time cutoff to stop you draining the battery.

However, I think the OP's problem is VAG crossed-wires syndrome.

Dear Dr Zoidberg. Thank you for the tip. Swapped the wires and now it is all working properly :) .
