smoke at red line

Featured Replies

Had a sticky turbo causing intermittent limp mode. So tried Mr Muscle in Feb,  seemed ok for 2 months.

Started to use Shell low sulphur diesel, now put about £70 in total in.

Regularly thrash it in 2nd and 3rd. On the lasted occasion I changed from 3rd  (4500RPM) into neutral and got a large puff of grey smoke out the exhaust.

Presumably this is carbon built up in the turbo coming out when the actuator changed size at the gear change, which is good. Nothing untoward from the car.

It could also be ring flutter causing oil to get past the rings into the combustion chambers in those circumstances, but only if it's repeatable.

vaporised compressor wheel?    seems like a good way to screw up a 12 year old diesel
