Which spark plugs?

Featured Replies

What's the best spark plugs to go for the FL TSI vRS?

Also do the red R8 coil pack do anything different from the standard ones, or do they just look nicer with the red tops?

The red tops have a couple more windings and produce a fraction more spark but I doubt it's noticeable in normal driving.  I fitted a set because they were cheap (compared to what local VW dealers charge for coils).

I use Denso Iridium Power spark plugs.  The partno is  IK22 but I have the 1.8tsi so you'd be double checking the correct partno for the 2.0tsi.

I'd also recommend the NGK plugs which are a fraction more expensive than the Denso.

Silly question but does changing the new coil pack get rid of missfires?

I'm not sure what you mean...

It depends on what is causing the misfire.  If the coil pack is weak or degraded then yes it will but the level of spark is a combination of the coil pack, the spark plug age/condition & the spark plug gap.  I tend to run my plugs at at 0.028" (0.7mm) which I believe is probably tight  (factory is 0.30" ???) because I think it gives a more reliable spark.

The ability to ignite the spark depends on fuel mixture and atomisation, compression pressure & how much "woosh" (tech term) is going through the cylinder.
