Engine / top end breather hose kit - is this ok?

Featured Replies

One of my upper breather hoses split the other day. I managed to bodge it for now, the car still runs perfectly with no faults or dashboard lamps coming up - however, I know I am on borrowed time and need to replace them all ideally - from the engine crankcase breather upwards.

I was having a butchers on the bay, and found a kit for 15 quid. Seems a bit too good to be true - so can some of you far more knowledgeable than me have a quick look please, and let me know if this is all I will need? And if it looks ok?

Thanks peeps!

They're the usual suspects as far as split pipes go, the elbow, lower breather and y pipe. Not genuine but will get you out of a hole if you can wait a little while, although post from China isn't too bad actually, they have a lot of ships coming our way.

This could be where your oil consumption is going.

Indeed. Look for any condensed oil on pipework, especially where pipes join. Check top of lower breather where it joins Y pipe, the top was coming off mine there and you couldn't tell by looking. Saw condensed oil on side of engine where it had been spitting out. Discovered when I went to remove it to fit catch can. Also how's your dipstick area? The holders are prone to cracking and that elbow that's down there is also another culprit. Pretty hard to see down there I know but...

Just realised I'd read you've had a split, check others though, at the mileage you're on if one has failed others may follow.
