Servicing my vrs

Featured Replies

Hello I'm after some advice I want to service my Vrs every 5000miles what would be a good oil to use shell, Mobil 1 or genuine from Tps witch is castrol

Many thanks

Do you mean change the Oil and Filter every 5,000 miles.  (As well as other servicing items, or are you doing them to the Schedule / Guidelines?)

Worth doing maybe if you only do 5,000 miles a year, otherwise the Oil is good for 10,000 miles. IMO

I would not use Castrol Edge or Quantum Long Life (VW 504 00)  5w 30

& not worth paying for Mobile 1 or other Expensive Brands if it is for Road Use in the UK.

Get some decent oil from Tesco, Asda or anyplace else.  Reasonable priced oil,  5w 40 to meet VW 502 00.

OK for Fixed Servicing when not doing Variable and high annual miles in a Twincharger.

5 Litres for £16-20 maybe and change it every 10,000 miles.

You can still change the Oil Filter every 5,000 miles if you want to without changing the oil.

The filter can be changed easily without dropping the oil.

It will be serviced by Skoda every 10k I just want to do a mid service 5k just so the oil and filter are always good and do the plugs every 10k along with the fuel filter

Unless you have a particular reason to change oil that often i would recommend you do not.

As well as being just a waste of money, you might find as others do, after an oil change is when a non Oil User might use oil for a bit.

Plus you are not going to extended the life of the Engine with 5,000 mile Oil changes.

Up to yourself obviously.

Thanks for the advice, so why would it use more oil after a change ?

Out of interest, what do you think is wrong with castrol edge 5w-30? I either use that, Mobil 1 or Shell Helix 5w-30. May give 5w-40 a go though, whether it would make any difference

I changed to Shell Helix ECT for oil changes after Castrol and Mobil and noticed the indicated oil temperature was a few degrees lower over most situations.

Castrol Edge / Quantum,

VW and other manufacturers oil of Choice,

not especially Premium and possibly not the best for a Twincharger, just Expensive which is not the same as being good.

Works OK, nothing special though, others have the car running cooler and more efficiently.

Like NGK Spark Plugs, Dunlop Tyres etc,  anything OEM, it is what they Use, Recommend & people then use,  but its about their profits, their partners

and not necessarily about the Customers Pockets, or what the car might perform best with,  Just Corporate Profits. & Bulk Buying for them World Wide.

I switched from castrol to Quantum and temp does run lower. I'd say up to 10 degrees lower at times for me.
