Hi, buying 1.6 Octavia II FSI ? but previous owner only used 95 Ron?!

Featured Replies

Is this a good idea or can using only 95 Ron unleaded have damaged the engine?

Thanks,

John.

Erm yea

The higher oct fuels don't really do much and most if not all cars are meant to run on the 95 fuel.

Not really sure what the question is really?

The recommended grade of fuel for that engine is indicated inside the fuel filler flap. I would be surprised if it is higher than 95RON.

Higher octane fuels are used with cars with high performance or have been remapped, there is no need to worry about your car running on 95.

Thanks so far, there have been posts mentioning that normal unleaded (95 Ron)  can gradually damage an FSI engine which is designed to run on fuel of a higher octane content e.g. 98 RON..

Is that correct, or is the fact that 95 was used nothing to worry about?

I am sure it will run on 95 Oct stuff just fine

95 RON is fine.

It's not a powerful or advanced engine.

Thanks,  Yes it will run fine on 95, but the question was, could prolonged use of 95 have damaged it in any way...i.e if buying a used 1.6FSI, does it matter if the previous owner always used 95.

I very much doubt it.

If the car is rated to run on 95 petrol then it is highly unlikely to damage the car.

If it was only rated to run on 98 or higher it's still unlikely to cause any damage just probably wouldn't produce as much power.

Even the higher strung 1.4 twin charged engine is rated to run on 95 fuel but 98 is recommended. The simple reason that the engine can't achieve it's full 180bhp on 95 fuel and the timing etc is tweaked accordingly.
