I'm 'Madspikes' from Dorset and I've just bought myself a 2005 Mk1 Red Octavia VRS.   After spending a few months searching for my perfect 330D, I bought the Octavia out of the blue.  I've always wanted one, and this one was local and too cheap not to take a look.  The car isn't perfect, the interior needs a good clean, and rear wiper doesn't work but has a fantastic service history.  Over the bank holiday I plan to sort these issues.

 

So the Octavia now brings the number of cars in the family to 4 (and there is only me and my wife that drive) and the first non french car I've chosen to buy.  My car history is as very french... Pug 104, 205 GT, 306 D-Turbo, Mazda 626, 205 GTi, Saxo, 306 HDI and 307 SW... Of that little lot we still have the 205 GTi, which has a supercharger (http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=66898), the 307 SW and the 306 HDi.  The 306 is getting kicked into touch to make room for the Octavia.  

 

I'm very hands on, I don't like taking my cars to the garage.

 

From what i've seen so far this is a very informative forum, and will be asking questions in the future.  I guess my only current question is what is the best diagnostic tool / software to buy.
