unmounting - roof rails?

I've been reading through all the threads I could find regarding unmounting the Fabia Estate roof rails, but have'nt found anything definite. Hints and how to's are very much appreciated.

Mind you I do like the rails, however I don't want them Black. I'm thinking of either having them painted or powder coated. I like the look of lighter coloured roof rails - like I see on other VAG cars or Peugeots for that matter. My car is the "new" Graphite metallic (colorcode U9U9).
