Speedo Markings

Featured Replies

Something that's slightly bugged me ever since I've had the Fabia is the fact that there are no vivid 30 and 70 mph markings on the speedo.

So I was bored today and got some of those letters that you rub a pen over and they transfer to a surface.

I took the cluster apart and used the red full stops from the letters to mark the 30 and 70 mph positions. Quite pleased with the result as the colour perfectly matches the other red bits on the cluster. The stuff the letters are made of is so thin that it looks like it was printed on rather than using paint or some kind of tape which would probably look crap.

Agreed, the speedo is useless trying to maintain 30 mph especially as ( both mine are) they are 10% over reading.

I bought 2 fuzion GPS camera detectors which have accurate speedometers on full view and are excellent and much easier to read, I have mounted them partly in front of the speedometer and wired them up to come on with the ignition on.

I don't want a vRS. I get there slow but sure. No turbos to blow on my chariot :p

Great work, TMB. Was it hard to take the cluster out and to free the clocks from their plastic prison? :)

Thanks :)

It's extremely easy to remove the cluster from its plastic prison. Lower steering wheel with the column adjuster. Pull off dash trim at bottom of cluster. Remove the two Torx screws at bottom of cluster and ease it out from the top of dash. Remove the two plugs from rear of cluster. The green plug (right-hand side of cluster) has a strange locking lever on it that you have to swing upwards to release plug.

That's great, thanks. How does the glass/plastic cover come away from the clocks?

Plastic lugs that you prise open. The clear plastic is bonded to the black plastic shroud and cannot be removed.
