Rear skoda emblem removal.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Been doing some basic mods -

Interior led's

Plastidip main Skoda emblems black.

De badged the Skoda and octavia lettering on the back.

I really like the look of the main emblems in black, but Im not too sure how long the plastidip will last.

with this in mind i ordered a after market rear emblem off Ebay to see what it looked like..

Now some will say it is horrible, others nice... I was a bit unsure to begin with from the photos on the listing, but was pleasantly surprised how nice it looks in the flesh, the pictures don't do it credit. In fact I think the listing makes them look very cheap looking. the badge is not shiny at all, ( the 3rd picture where the badge looks a more matt finish is how it looks  more) the carbon look is very good, compared to the fake carbon in the VRS its self, this is in a different league.

And no im not the seller, haha,  I got the link to the site of here a while back, the badge got some very mixed reviews, so i thought I would just add my views to anyone thinking of getting one.

My main reason for the post is this----

The new one is held on with 3M tape.

I was just wondering if the original badge is just stuck on the same way  as the lettering I removed when de badging..

thanks

Yes, the original is stuck with double sided adhesive as well. Just start with some dental floss and use a toothpick to get it behind the badge. If this is not enough, find a denser string to saw the old badge off.

The factory badge has 1 big adhesive, not 3 strips like the ebay item.

Thanks for the reply.

i guessed it was just going to be stuck on, hopefully it will come off as easy as all the letters did, a little heat and dental floss.

I like that [emoji4]

I was going to plasti dip the 2 Skoda badges on my Rapid as all the others were removed on PDI at my request. I may get these instead [emoji106]

I thought they were recessed on the bonnet and tailgate so you know you've put them on straight?

I used a screwdriver to break the outer ring of the existing emblem, from the inside, once the outer ring is off, the rest is easy to remove.

going to try and remove without damaging them if possible,  then if I fancy going back to standard or some little sod nicks em i wont have to shell out again....

Looks good [emoji106]

What moulding did you have to do?

OCD,  the badge comes flat,  the rear panel on the octavia where the badge is has a slight curve .

For the badge to sit correctly.it has to be warmed (heat gun or hair dryer) slightly then molded/formed to get the curve, very easy to do just molded in hands until  the right curve is achieved.

there is a link on the ebay listing on how to do it.

I'm happy with the result, I will be getting the front one in a week or so to match

Thanks for that.It seems the tailgate/badge has a slight curve on my Rapid too.I,ll go about ordering these to try :)

Are you sure you ordered the right badges?

Admittedly i ordered the black octavia badges from Superskoda, but the badges i got were just OEM parts that had been sprayed, but had the perfect curve for the car and fitted like a glove.

they are after market badges which are flat,  the curve required is minimal. but sits better

.the OEM  badge has a slight curve in it but was also  fixed with a thicker bead of sticky stuff than the 3m tape on the after market badge.

The ones on Superskoda look like they have a slight curve as well.  As you said " oem ones painted"

They state they fit the front and back but im sure the badges are different sizes - front is 80mm in diameter  and the rear 90mm.

I didnt see those ones on the site, look good, and I would probably have gone for them if i had...

I think the ones on Superskoda are metallic black or whatever the official black grill surround colour is. They certainly look that way on the photos. Maybe someone can confirm?

The badges are the same front and rear - 90mm. Make's sense really on a lot of levels!

Superskoda badges do indeed match the black pack grill
