1.6td superb oil consumption

Featured Replies

just checked the dipstick and its halfway between top and bottom after only 6000 miles

my Mondeo and Epica never used any

what the norm?

Most manufactures state 0.5 or 1 litre per 1000 miles. I have not noticed any change on the dip stick on my car in 43k miles. It can simply vary between engines. Petrol engines (my son's A4 FSI uses at least 0.5 litre every 1000 miles) can use more i believe.

Being only a 4ltr sump 1ltr represents 25% of the total.....

Read you owners manual, but then it gives the same 'May use as much as' for all engines,

3 or 4 Cylinder, Petrol or Diesel.

But also it tells you, may use more in the first 5,000 km, or 3,000 km.

So did you check the level when you collected the car to be sure where it was,

and is this the first you have checked since at 6,000 miles?

It was at the top when new/delivered at 54 miles total

Ive checked it a few times but didnt see a great difference

Remember you had some leakage out of the dipstick, or at least noticed some oil residue around the dipstick. Perhaps more escaped than you realise?

I'm pretty sure you need the 507 00 oil for your engine. Also was the car parked in the same place (On level ground) as it was when it was checked before? If the engine has just been stopped the oil level will be lower as the oil drains back to the sump aver time when the engine is shut off. I think 5 minutes or so is enough time to leave the car stand to get a good reading.

i always check it here outside, on the flat and cold

Mine hardly burns any oil at all between services, perhaps a quarter of a litre over 20k miles.

I shall be watching mine closely, now on 6600 miles

Have covered over 10000km with mine and have not noticed any difference on the dip stick.

On my previous Superb I had to top it up if I was doing a lot of city driving otherwise it would not require any top ups between the services.
