Gearbox problem noise

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 Octavia 1.6, over the last couple of days i've heard a noise coming from what appears to be the gearbox, when i release the accelerator it makes a noise( like flapping) , then apply the accelerator it stops. There is also an oil leak coming from the gearbox. I took it into a garage and the guy told me the gearbox has run dry and the problem is with the differential.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is either get a second hand gearbox or a reconditioned one because i was told it would take up to 2 weeks to get mine repaired.

which gearbox will fit my car? are there other car models that have the same gearbox? i'm just not sure how to go about searching for the right one.

Also if you have any comments about the problem or any suggestions on what i should do, i'd appreciate it.

Ask a Skoda dealer or look at the car code plate, they/it will tell you what gearbox is factory fitted.  It will be a three letter code e.g. 02Q.

The gearbox code is on the Vehicle Data sticker inside the front cover of the service booklet and on the identical sticker on the boot floor beside the spare wheel well.
