bleeding brakes

Featured Replies

I have replaced a master cylinder and rear calliper on my Octavia 1.9 TDI 2004 and now am having problems removing air from the system. Have tried bleeding the brakes by the normal way without any success. Can anyone advise how to remove the air. Thanks

Pressure bleed with a gunsen easibleed is the best way. I take it when you say the "normal way" you are talking about pumping the brake peddle?

Thanks for the info, will try it and yes I did try pumping the brake pedal.

Yeah pumping the brake peddle is not the recommended way on modern ABS equipped cars. Pressure bleeding is a much more reliable way.

Using the pedal probably will work eventually but honestly i had trouble bleeding my clutch a few weeks ago and it was suggested here to buy a Gunson Ezibleed. Being a bit old school i did think it couldn't possibly be any better than using the cars own master cylinder but i was very wrong. Brilliant bit of kit and when its a Sunday morning and your up s!@t creek £20 from halfords is a bargain!!

I thought pumping the pedal to bleed the brakes is one of the ways that takes out the ABS pump.

No the ABS pump is fine either way.

You do run the risk of damaging the seals in the slave cylinder though as it's all too easy to push the pedal too far. You then end up having to replace that.

Recommended method is either pressure bleed or vacuum.
