BlackVue 650 with Custom Firmware

Featured Replies

I've tried my hardest to try and purchase the firmware but the russian website is worse than terrible. Chrome, Firefox and Safari all timeout or have errors on the purchase page.

Has anyone here managed to get hold of the custom firmware? If so how?

It's specifically the custom firmware I'm after which runs at higher bitrates than standard. I think standard it is 8mb and the custom firmware has options for 12, 13 and 15mb.

Thanks. Managed to finally get the site to work and all installed. Working great if anyone else is thinking of trying it out.

Any other improvements beside the bitrate? I was after upping it when I got the cam. But I'm not that bothered with it anymore, most of the footage is 'good enough' for me.

  • You can enable "N" wifi to speed up transferring footage to your phone considerably. It also allows me to connect to the wifi within 2 seconds of pressing the wifi button on the blackvue - Before my iPhone wouldn't allow me to connect for a minute.
  • You can adjust the bit-rates up or down in both cameras in both normal and parking mode so if you think the parking mode quality is too high you could reduce it and save space on the card
  • You can enable wide dynamic range which essentially makes more of the lighter and darker areas of footage more visible
  • Night footage is much improved with the higher bitrate
  • It gets rid of the black bar at the top of the footage and instead your custom text (if you've set it) goes at the bottom right in the bar that is already there.
  • You can tweak the camera settings: Black levels, White levels, etc although with the WDR enabled the settings the guy has preset have been perfect.

I can't remember the other settings off hand but I will print screen the settings page.
