Door light stays on

Featured Replies

Got into my car this morning to a flat battery.

It appears that the 'door open' light is staying on on the dashboard, and potentially so is the courtesy light. Hence flat battery!

Now car will not lock using central locking. I guess I'll need to recharge.

If I recall, the car was used 2 days ago, and I noticed something not right. The light went off and the doors locked once I pulled away.

I don't know where to start looking for the fault.

Any ideas please?

Open the door, inbetween the hinges you will see a rubber tube where the electrical power passes from the behind the front wing and into the door.

Over time the wires inside the rubber tube can become brittle and snap.

This is where I'd check first as it's quite a common failure.

I guess the most likely is a door switch. A common one is when water from the rear washer gets into the tailgate and drains out through the lock. You need to find out which door is not registering as closed, I guess vcds can do this if you don't have maxi-dot.

Thank you both for the replies.

I will be investigating in the morning (at work now!)

Hopefully it is something of a quick repair that I can find/do

We'll see
