Featured Replies

Ive bought a 2009 limited edition vrs (petrol hatch, no 368!) and would like to stick a better head unit in, pref with sat nav and bluetooth for the ol mobile, just wondering what advice any of you guys had as the dealer said it would be big bucks to put a posher one in.

seen stuff like this on ebay

Also how difficult are they to fit? or rough price an auto electrical guy would charge to bung one in?

Depends on your budget really.

Personally I would go OEM so Columbus or Amundsen if you want nav.

If you went for a Columbus then you probably need to budget around £550 for a second hand Columbus, trims, phone module, loom and mic. Fairly easy to retrofit with plenty of guides on the net.

Alternately you can pick up an Amundsen+ with Bluetooth enabled for £350ish and a mic for £30ish so a little cheaper and easier to retrofit.

Both units have pro's and con's so all budget dependent really.

I'd stay away from any cheap chinese nastyness

Instaling one would be a doddle. Just remove the plate which goes over the headunit/heating controlls (simple clips and pops off)

Undo the 4 torx screws holding the oem unit in place and out it comes.

Fit the new headunits loom remembering you need an adapter which will create a false switched live (you dont have a switched live being canbus)

Fit the new bracket for the headunit to sit in

Put the headunit in place

Fit the new facia (your oem one wont fit)

Sorted :)

yea thought as much, plumped for a kenwood 521dab, fitted it the weekend. Although i need a fascia for it as its a little smaller than the bolero, does anyone know what fascia fits or where to get one?

get one from skoda mate. That way you know you should get exactly the right one and can take it back easily if any issues
