no air con..

Hi can anyone help please

Typical I notice this on the hottest day of the year...

I'm not sure the last time the air conn worked as I don't tend to use it much.( with our weather !!!)

2004 2.0tdi no air cooling on air con .the light is on, pully is rotating on air conn pump.

I have read the havac code and it reads

00898-106

Control circuit a/c compressor

Sporadic 010 open or short to plus.

Tried clearing it but the code stays .

I've checked the fuses , wiring seems ok no chafing , checked the plug on the n280 seems ok

The n280 valve/solenoid does not seem to have a torx bolt in it but could this have some kind of 'cap' over the it to hide it.

If I could clear the code it worth disconnecting the plug to the n280 and then seeing if it come back is it another switch/wiring issue ?

I've read conflicting info as to whether these are replaceable.

Am I barking up the wrong tree ??

Oh I have just refixed the ambient temp senso by the lower grill as I had an encounter with a deer and it must have got dislodged.
