Cracked windsreen.

Featured Replies

I must be unlucky. Had the car just over a month and to my knowledge it's only been hit by one stone. Driving home last night, discovered a crack in the windscreen :(

Lifting the LHS wiper, somehow the stone managed to hit the screen just on or under the wiper blade. Dunno if the screen cracked then or later on but it's now got a curving 8" long crack in it.

Anyone have any thoughts on replacement? Insurance will pay but are there any little problems or issues? For instance, how would I remove the A pillar trims to avoid them getting gummed up?

I have had a car windscreen and heated rear window replaced by Autoglass without any problems. Both done on insurance less

yep, leave it to insurance job. Usually Autoglass or RAC Windscreens.

I got hit pretty hard by a stone the other week travelling the M6 southbound. Couldn't see anyything at the time.

The wonders of black/grey top tints.....

Four days later, i noticed a 1oinch crack from the top edge heading down the screen. Actually had to seperate piece of the stone still embedded in the screen edge and achunk of paint missing....

Got that replaced.

Then got another chip dead centre heading back north.

free repair, though i reckon they might reject that claim.....two ina week..... :(

Hi

About two months ago, I got a big stone chip in the Omega screen after 110,000 miles without incident. Had the screen replaced on insurance on the Wednesday, on the Friday got another slightly smaller chip, which was repaired immediately again on insurance. Swore a lot when it happened

Lucky week eh?

Chris

I had this problem with my previous car which was an Nissan Almera. I had four cars before the Almera in 9 years and within the first week I had a crack in the windscreen 3 later it happened again. You won't be surprised to read that I got rid of the Almera after 5 months for my Fabia. In both cases it didn't cost me a penny.

Think I'll try to remove the trim before toddling along or getting autoglass in.

I'll mark the screen for Monday AM in case the crack decides to grow.

If I can get it done before the end of the week, that's grand.

VERY recent meeting with a stone on a Wed am, caused a 4" horizontal crack, by the time i got to work 30 mins later it was approx 7", a phone call to Autoglass, & I had an appointment for the Friday am.

A word of caution - If it is a Furby vRS & it has the grey sunstrip, tell them as they will most likely have to order it in from the warehouse.

Autoglass would come out to replace, but due to expected rainy day, i took the car to them, had to go back on the Sat am , as they didnt have the grey strip screen in stock.

They asked me to leave the car with them for a min of 1.25 hrs ( to allow bonding to set), on return it was only going to cost
