Octavia Clutch issue / question

Featured Replies

Looking for a little helpful advice

Cars a 10 Plate 2.0 diesel  Octy 4x4 although I believe the clutch is similar / the same in any other diesels of a similar age,  cars done 115000 miles

The car isn't used a lot often spending days standing & recently the clutch bite point has been just off the floor but , there's no judder or slippage

Ive assumed its a hydraulic issue as it did get a bit better if you pumped the pedal.  Ive also had a few occasions when the pedals stayed about 1/2 way down & Ive had to pop my toe under it to pull it back up.

The slave cylinder is inside the housing so I had decided at 115000 pull out the box, fit new slave , clutch & probably flywheel & a master whilst its out but its a hefty bill.

Im wondering if the knowledge base here may have any other ideas & could it be the master cylinder. Im not heavy on clutches, my old Octy went to a friend & despite being mapped is now well over 200K on the original clutch ( 160 K by me ) so odds are it wont actually need a clutch for a while

The strangest thing is yesterday after a trip to get the MOT  the bite point came up to near normal

Any thoughts , ideas welcome

Have you changed the fluid for starters and bled the system?

  • Decided to take a chance on a new master, bleed & fluid.  If that doesent work its slave & new clutch whilst its out ( & I guess flywheel )
