Brake pad ware sensor

Featured Replies

Hi All

The so call "geniuses" at my local motor factors provided me with some discs and paps fro my mk2 octy. I fitted them and whilst on the passenger side I noted there was no Ware sensor on any of the pads they provided. Undeterred I though sod it i've spent a few hours getting this far I will see what happens. My brake warning like is on the dash.

I probably know the answer to this already but would not having a ware sensor plugged in would that cause the light. Is there any way to fudge it if that is the cause or am i going to have to take them back and get a replacement set?

The sensor is basically just a loop of wire, when the pads wear down it wears the wire and cuts the loop putting the light on, so disconnecting the sensor will also put the warning light on.

Basically you have 3 options:

1/ Fit an old sensor into the plug (if its a worn one then simply join the wires back together again).

2/ Code the car with VCDS telling it there is no sensor

3/ fit the correct pads with a sensor fitted.

You don’t want to leave the plug exposed to the elements otherwise it will corrode leaving you open to other problems.

Could always bridge it out and wrap it up away from the elements.

If it were me tho id put the right pads in with the wear sensor, I'm a bit sad like that.
