new Fabia 3 usb 3.0 problems?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone .. new to the forums

Got my 1.2 110 estate SEL last week ~ very happy with lots but a few grumps. Here is one that is really annoying me (don't get me started on mirrorlink!!!!!)

Finally figured out what unit I have in the car (that took a while!) - so it seems I have the Bolero without frills (no satnav)

Initially shocked not to find a cd player .. head still in the past .. but I now see the logic of a reader.

In the handbook it says it will read usb 3.0 so I duly bought myself a 32GB stick to load all my music.

Put a few folders in but it will not read device so this is not a file format issue - it says device not recognised.

Tried:

Reformatting in NTFS instead of FAT32 .. no change

Tried partition to 16GB .. no change

I have a much smaller usb2.0 which it reads no problem.

So the question is this: is Skoda misinforming me in telling me that it will read usb3.0 when it won't.

maybe I need to update the system? That means buying an SD card as well .... I'd better be careful!

How do I know if I have the latest firmware?

This is what it tells me:

part no. 5Q0035842A

Hardware: H24

Software: 0241

media codec: 2101.0.0.8   (this is probably irrelevant to my problem)

VERY frustrating this with my new car which drives beautifully I have to say (having laboured with a noisy and unresponsive diesel for many years)

Thanks for any help from you tech guys out there.

Phil

Hi Phil, I also got my car last week and agree with you on how well it drives. I've not tried music directly from a USB stick but it works well from a 32gb SD card in the glove compartment slot and also plays music  from my phone connected via the USB socket which also charges the phone.

Hi Phil I am using a San Disk Ultra 8 GB SDHC using a ripper program and added cd artwork this has worked really well for me Both programs are free Joe

thanks for this guys .. we are talking about inserting the sd card in the glove box socket yes? Sounds like a good workaround if the usb3 issue is unresolved - cheers.

sorry newbie .. you did say this in your post!!

I would very much recommend the SD card for the long-time solution - it is much better protected in the glove compartment than a protruding stick just over the storage boxes. Get a large enough  card and you will not need to touch it again anytime soon.

To my understaning anything USB3 should be backwards compatible with USB2 (meaning it works but not at full speed), so there must be something with the format of the filesystem on the usb stick. Note-for playing musing speed is not an issue, any sd-card or usb stick is fast enough for that, you will not get any benefit by bying the fastest and most expensive one.

Thanks the-Raz ... this sounds like a good way to go and the usb port is better not being permanently tied up anyway so sd card is the way to go.

thanks everyone for the steer.
