Service interval Display?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I haven't posted for ages, I pop in every now and then but we have been so happy my Yeti and me, no questions! recently had my first variable service at 20.000 miles. I instructed Skoda garage to keep it on variable as has been so happy and they agreed. The interval isn't coming up and when I queried it the service tech said it can take several hundred miles to 'read' the oil. Now, I am puzzled because I am fairly sure that when I took del of my brand new Yeti with 5 miles on the clock , the display was showing.

Can one of you lovely people who helped me so much when I was new to Yeti ownership, tell me if this is correct or am I being spun a yarn? Just had new Kumho tyres on front so OE Continentals have done quite well. Will be putting Kumho winters on end Oct. This car hasn't put a foot wrong and I am still as pleased with it now as I was in the beginning.

It does and did take time.

The dealer is correct.

It may take time, but it isn't 'reading' the oil. I suspect it takes a while for the algorithm to settle down to a steady value after being reset.

Thank you all my mind is now at rest.

We have a fixed service schedule - 1 year or 15,000kms, whichever comes first no matter what (shorter if severe conditions).

All my driving is under ideal conditions but I wouldn't be happy doubling to 32k before an oil and filter change.

What sort of oil gets more than double as we use full synthetic, plus milder winters/hotter summers?

If you used the Longlife oil (specification 504 00/507 00) no doubt you could do the extended oil drain intervals. I believe that Australian fuel is a match for European (low sulphur etc). There are many factors that influence the choice an OEM makes for oil drain intervals, including the oil quality, engine and vehicle specification and tuning, national geography, fuel quality, local habit and culture etc...

You couldn't get a more friendly environment than mine eg sealed garage, long trips only little dust, dry environment and even then some out here do 'intermediate' (7.5k) oil and filter changes using the v best oils and appropriate oil.

To most of us it would be seen more as a competitive marketing edge to extend that far rather than optimal wear protection.
