Lincolnshire Noob with an Octavia VRS on order

Featured Replies

Hi,

Newbie here from North East Lincs. Had quite a few cars in my 13 yars of driving including a couple of Clio 182's, a 292bhp Vauxhall VX220 turbo, 400bhp Lancer Evo 9 but now with an 11month old kid I've had to grow up and I have an Octavia VRS on order which is due for delivery during september to replace my 2012 Fiesta Zetec S TDCi.

I went for Race blue metallic estate with Black design pack, sunset glass and front parking sensors on a 24month PCH deal. My first lease car and my first skoda. I haven't even driven an Octavia so hope I haven't made a mistake!

Oh yes it was a bit insane. it's the fastest thing I've ever been in. With it being a turbo and the max RPM being quite low the peak power figure doesn't really do it justice. It was more about the torque.. 320lbft through most of the mid range in a car that weighed around 900kg made it a hell of an overtaking machine. I do miss it a lot and it now lives in Sweden!

It's good to see something a bit different like that over the more traditional Lotus Elise and the like.  Does all that power not make it a handfull in real-world driving?

I'm moving from a Mk5 Golf GTI Edition 30, to a diesel vRS Estate, I think I'll be in for a culture shock in the first few weeks of ownership.....

It actually gripped really well on the R888 tyres, not like previous FWD hothatches that I've had that would lose traction mid range when the power kicked in..

I also fitted Racelogic Traction control / Launch control with the indash adjustable controller

The only thing was on track mid corner it wasn't as stable as people with supercharger modified Normally aspirated versions as they were much mor elinear in the throttle response whereas the turbo's were a bit on/off.

oh yeah I didn't mention earlier my octavia is also a diesel. What year OVRS are you going for and are you going for a manual or DSG ? Have you driven one yet?

I'd have found a car like your VX220 difficult to let go of! I'd need to find a place in the garage for it I think. Sounds awesome!

My Octavia will be brand new on a 65 plate. Should get it end of September/beginning October from the factory.

I originally spec'd manual, then test drove the DSG. From then on I was hooked on DSG. It may only have novelty value, but I'm from the PlayStation generation, so I was loving the flappy paddles!

Did you spec any options on yours?

Here are the options boxes I ticked:

- Quartz Grey Metallic

- 18" Gemini Anthracite wheels

- Black Pack

- Heated windscreen

- Heated washer nozzles

- Heated front seats

- Sunset glass

- Colour onboard computer

- Spare wheel

- Variable boot floor

I have dogs, and the Golf hatchback has been too impractical for years, so it has to make way for the estate.

How did the DSG drive? I was put off by reviews on pistonheads although haven't experienced it myself

That's a good list. I am really going to miss my Ford heated windscreen in the winter. As its a lease car I didn't want to go too mental on the options as it bumps the price up and I will only have it two years. I tend to get bored after 3 anyway.

Race Blue Metallic

Black pack incl black roof rails as its an estate

Amundsen sat nav (was FOC when I ordered end of June)

Sunset Glass

Red stitching on the interior

Front and Rear parking sensors (Mrs will feel more comfortable driving it with the fronts)

Wheels are the standard 18" gemini anthracitey coloured ones

We saw a silver one in the local dealer with the black pack/sunset glass/full leather and it looked awesome. Couldn't believe how much room is in the back seats and the boot. I'm assuming the black interior headlining that was in that is a standard feature.

I found the DSG to be smooth and responsive. I drove it in all modes - full auto, semi-auto, and using the paddles. For all the time I drove the car, about 30 minutes, I was impressed by it.

We had a pool car at work, a VW Sharan albeit, but it had a DSG box and I thoroughly enjoyed driving it.

I've read mostly positive things about the DSG box. Looking forward to living with it day to day as my commute to and from work can be a bit stop/start.

I agree though, the space in the Octavia is pretty epic considering it's the Golf chassis. Me and my partner sat in the back seats for ages taking in all the space. We did sit in a Superb in the showroom afterwards, that thing is like the Tardis with the space inside!

I couldn't pass up the opportunity of a heated windscreen. I opted for the KESSY system to start with then changed my mind the following day. Quite content that I've picked the windscreen now for the Scottish winters!

I had originally spec'd the upgraded stereo as well and got told the same as you, that it was standard on MY16 orders. Happy days, as it allowed me to spec another £800 of options! [emoji15]

Oddly enough if you go on the car configurator on skoda uk now the amundsen sat nav is back to being an expensive option

Yeah, I found that as well. I had to get the salesman to double check it was standard for MY16 builds.

I spec'd the Colour maxi dot display as it integrates with the sat nav, so I'll be disappointed if I don't have that functionality.
