New to Octavia's, couple of questions.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently got myself a very ropey 51 plate 132k Octavia VRS. I am happy with the car, it seems very capable, and for the money i paid, I'm pleased.

After owning the car a month I have a couple of questions however.

1. The aircon doesn't seem to work correctly despite a regas. The moment I turn econ off(and set to low, or 18c) I can feel the vents get much cooler for 10 seconds, and then go back to being just normal. Why is this?

2. I have a catback exhaust and a cold air induction pipe with cone filter. I can hear when the car boosts but i seem to get small surge in boost from 1k to 1400 rpm, and then it starts to boost again at around 2k. Just seems strange.

Thanks guys.

Just to add, i think it needs a new thermostat, that couldn't cause the aircon issue could it?

If you replace the stat, do the coolant temp sensor as well. Buy genuine and you may find both of those solve all your problems (your running issue could be down to cts).

There is a diagnostics thing you can try with the heater. Hold down the extreme left and right buttons as you turn the ignition on and it will cycle through its settings and reset (takes about 30 secs), it can detect some faults and give a code on the display.

Yeah ill get it done, looks to be a bit of a pain for the thermostat?

Brilliant, just gave it a go and it reported error 381 00 - AC switch?

The stat is tricky due to access, there's a fair bit of pipework round the dipstick area, doable with socket extensions and an elbow, you just need a smuch out the way as possible.  You can unscrew the metal plate from the intake manifold that has hoses underneath and move it a bit, and a good idea to take out dipstick holder, if you do that I would buy a replacement ready as they're often brittle and can break up, might as well replace anyway. Be ready to top up coolant with vw stuff too, you won't need much mind.

I'm not sure what your code means, sure someone here will...but I do have a climatronic head unit for sale should you need one?
