I know plenty of people have plasti dipped their chrome surrounds in black, has anyone given it a go in white on a white FL octy vrs? Would the colours be totally different? Or should I bite the bullet and take it a body shop to get done

For the price of a can of plastidip it might be worth a punt but for exact matching result a body shop would be the way to go.

Not the whole grill, just the chrome surround, the chrome reminds me of a kid with braces, of which I was one some time ago!
