Skoda fabia classic 1.9 sdi cuts out

Featured Replies

Hi guys

forgive me as I new to this website. I have recently bought a fabia classic 2001 1.9 sdi. It runs absolutely great until I put my foot down and give it some throttle. It was increase speed no problems but i get to around 55mph and its loses all power completely, a big blast of blue smoke comes out the back and the engine just cuts out completely. Now sometimes it will start back up eventually before the battery dies. Other times I have hook the jump leads up from another vehicle and cranked it over. I starts eventually after about 40 seconds.

I am baffled by this as I have had the car on the computer at the local garage and this picks up no problems at all. The previous owner had the fuel lines from the filter, and the filter changed recently. But I have checked all that for air leaks. I am completely at a lose end. HEELLLPPPPP.

thanks in advance for any answers or clues. its all much appreciated

Blue smoke out the exhaust pipe normally suggests burning lubricating oil, so is it using oil? As an added bonus, this won't throw any fault codes.

the bloke that used it before me had been using red diesel for a month or so. I really hoping its not injection pump problem. I spoke to a mechanic friend who told to wedge the air flow regulator flap open as it was struggling for air.

When it puffs the blue smoke it does smell quite fruity and not like a typical diesel burning smell.
