Soon to be Octavia Owner

Featured Replies

Good evening all

Visited the site before gaining information on the engine in my 2006 Leon. A fine fine car that has served me well for over 100k without incident. Due to a growing family I've placed a deposit on a 2010 Octavia Elegance Estate, 1.6 TDI. Should be picking it up early next week.

Really impressed with it, subtle things like having space for a full sized spare wheel and the general layout and feel. I've driven the 1.6 in a VW Caddy so I'm used to the engine, I think I'm going to miss the black smoke days of the old 1.9 PD...

I do have a couple of questions for you all though...

When unlocking/locking it makes a beeping noise. I'm sure this can be switched on/off but will it need VAG-COM / VCDS to do this or can it be done in the car? I know with SEATs you gained extra options when the Bluetooth module was fitted, and this Elegance looks to have it - buttons on the steering wheel with a phone symbol on...

Also I'd look to get a set of roof bars to fit the factory fit rails, seems a lot of choice out there and I'm after some recommendations. Ultimately I only have occasional use but I know you only get what you pay for and will happily pay a little extra for something robust and well made. The £30 offerings on ebay promise heavy duty but I'm not convinced....

Finally, is the traction control (marked ASR in the Octavia) the same as the ESP that I have in the Leon, or is it just a fancy name for traction control over stability control?

Thanks in advance

Chris
