Squealing brakes in a new(ish) Yeti

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced issues with squealing brakes at low speed?

We've heard a squeal coming from the brakes for our 2.0 Outdoor TDi Yeti since shortly after we bought the car - mainly at low speed (eg 10-20kms p/h), when lightly braking going down a minor incline (such as a gradually sloped road or driveway).

We raised it with the dealer recently at our first (15K) service, and they first indicated that it was 'glazing', and proceeded to take them off to rough them up a little, however that hasn't helped. I've just called them to query it, and they've advised that there is no issue in terms of braking, and that it is just caused by brake dust, which is common for people living in hilly areas (we're in the Adelaide Hills).

I'm not at all happy with this response - we don't drive the car in any abnormal or unusual way, and while we do live in the hills, there is nothing particularly extreme about our environment. With that in mind, I don't think it's unreasonable for us to not accept this, and would like to take it further.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar issue with their Yeti, and what the root cause (and solution) was?

Thanks

Sounds like your dealer is correct and it is glazing of the pads.

Simple cure, don't feather the brakes but apply them harder, this will take the glaze off.

"and proceeded to take them off"

You jest, surely?

I think he means they removed the pads, roughened them and then refitted them!

Sorry, yes - thats what happened.

Ours is quite squeaky when stopping in reverse (new a couple of months ago)

Pads most likely the culprit (very dusty as well) a change of pad compound when they are due for replacement would likely solve the issue

Yes, I have it on ours and have either got used to it or will have it looked at on the first service.
