which DVD file is playing ?

Featured Replies

ok so stay with me on this one

i have a dvd which is for halloween projection (if any one has heard of atmosfearFX)

the dvd is full of little short clips that are designed to be either

  1. projected on to a wall/window
  2. played through the tv
  3. projected on to a mesh to create a hologram

so basically it is the same clips but tailored to how it is being used for example when using the project on to mesh option it creates a narrower picture on the play through tv it i assume plays a wider image

all i can see in the file menu is just VOB files which is pretty std

i just wondered if i could be playing them through the laptop and see which file is being played when i select that menu so i can rip them from the DVD

i know this may look like a WTF question and i hope someone can help

this video may explain better

Pretty sure some "advanced" players such as VLC will let you just drag and drop a .VOB file onto them. Should be just a standard MPEG2 codec, nothing exciting. Alternatively you could use Handbrake to convert each chapter of the DVD (pretty sure each VOB or set of associated VOBs consists of one chapter) into its own MKV/MP4 and play them back from there as required.

that side of it i am ok with i just dont know which file to convert

you know how in windows media player when playing music for example you can pull up the list panel of what the track title is i want to do something similar with the dvd files

like i say its the same clips but slight differences i need to be able locate all the projection files and convert them not the TV ones

Any DVD player on the computer should show which title you're playing at that time? Can't suggest anything Windows, but I know Apple's DVDPlayer app does, as I use it to pick which titles when ripping DVD TV shows.
