Possibly alternator belt?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

So I have this unusual behaviour. When I start cold engine (for example in the morning), I can feel that the engine does a small kick every few seconds. The rpms are stable. When I looked into the engine bay I could see, that the tensioner was shaking a bit and it seemed to me that it was struggling with the belt. One time I could also hear a little squeal like You can hear in the cars with slipping alternator belt.

When the engine is heated up, everything is ok, the engine is smooth, no kicks and the tensioner is also looking ok.

I would blame the belt or the tensioner but they were both changed a year ago and approx. 7000 miles ago.

Its a 1.9 SDi .

Do You similar experience? What should I do or check?

Thanks!

Sprague clutch on the alternator pulley is buggered and it will kill the tensioner. Replace the pulley, tensioner and belt.
