Practical advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi all..

Eldest has his driving test on Nov 9th. SWMBO wants to buy him a car, but she wants to buy it now, to give him at Christmas!

So I'm looking at a car tomorrow.....if I buy it I'm going to need insurance to drive it away, or even test drive it. I can't tag it on to my insurance, and if I take out insurance on it I have to start from scratch with respect to ncd, right?

How do I do this?

Will also need taxing under the new rules, some insurance companies do the One day insurance, try them

The idea is to hide it in plain sight outside or near the house until Christmas so a one-day policy won't work. What I think I might do is take out another policy in my name until Christmas, with 0 NCD. Then (provided that he passes) I'll cancel that policy and start a new policy with him as the main driver.

You might find a provider who'll mirror your existing ncb but you will have to insure the car in your son's name when he takes possession (which you've already identified).

Absolutely. No danger of us "fronting" his policy.

Any idea for an insurer who mirrors ncb?

We could do it but we're not going to be any good for your son when the changeover happens as we need drivers to have 12 months ncb. If that's ok please give us a call.

Best,

Nick

Hi,

Have you tried us yet? We are able to mirror NCB across. We also have schemes for young drivers for when your son passes his test. If you like I can arrange for our quotes team to give you a call to discuss this?

Kind Regards

Dan
