2013 Fabia Tdi. Jumping out of reverse gear intermittently.

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Stepson has a 13 reg Fabia Tdi 105bhp. Every now & then, mostly once a day it jumps out of reverse gear. Last week one morning while driving it suddenly had difficulty engaging any gear, then all was fine. To say we are puzzled by this is an understatement.

Yesterday he took it to a Skoda main dealer as pre-booked in for asessment. Gears behaved themselves on the way there (typical). Skoda Technician road tested for 4 miles including reversing a few times & guess what, no issues. They advised if possible with a passenger if it does it again can you video it.

Surprise surprise it did it again this morning. Luckily he had a passenger who did video this happening, ironically this time reverse engaged, rear parking sensors display beeping, foot off the clutch pedal & going nowhere, nothing at all.

Anythoughts, ideas what it may be would be very much appreciated. I have by the way posted this on "Ask a Tech".

Regards, Tisca

Have a look at the linkage on the top of the gearbox. The set-up is adjustable. Something may have come loose, or there has been some wear which means adjustment would help. It may be the gear lever is not moving the mechanism in the gearbox fully so the gear is not fully engaged. This will wear the gears if left like this.
