Why is my insurance so high?

Featured Replies

Hi does anyone know of a good insurance company for skoda's? I'm 30 I have 7 years no claims I was paying £406 fully comp on my 290bhp focus st everything declared but the cheapest quote I can get for my skoda octavia Vrs tdi 170 cr is £580?

I'm 69 with 25 years without a claim and pay less than £150 for the same car (2012 with DSG) via the IAM's broker.  Not a lot of help I know - unless you can age quickly!

Keep shopping around, there is always a company out there who will provide the best quote. Finding said company gets harder and harder each year, with endless lists of hundreds and hundreds of insurers to shop around with! A lot of comparison sites etc you can get hundreds knocked off if you call them and haggle. Early month insurance shopping I have heard folk say is not the best time as end of month targets are further away, calling nearer the end of the month when a sales person is a little more under pressure is supposedly when they will be more likely to use all the flexibility they have to get their quota up.  For the last few years I have ended up getting my insurance from each provider at around £250 less than I was randomly quoted by them online, or via a comparison site.

Forum sponsoring insurance companies are of course a good first port of call.

My insurance renewal came in £70 more this year,I thought no problem I will just shop around and get it cheaper somewhere else.I was only paying £190 last year the best I could do was £250 I've had no claims I have no points on my licence. It just looks like insurance is getting more expensive each year

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like.

If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Please give Briskoda Insurance a call. We'll do all we can to get you the best rate.

Insurance premium tax ( IPT ) has also gone up from 6% to 9.5%  which doesn't help.

I'm in the same boat, last year £37 a month, renewal £ 51 a month, thought sod that been on the usual comparison sites and with declaring my mods all the ones I've had back are actually  more than my renewal and I wouldn't have to pay a deposit, and the Insurance company I work for wont touch the car because it's been modified.

Keep on looking I suppose

Take your IAM test #lovedriving and then get a quote from IAM Surety. Mine was £100 less this year on the same car with them and I'm just a bit older than you.

I've just tried CKI from off here and spoke to a nice lady named Cathy,  she has quoted me Dep £ 126.76 with 10 insts of £ 29.15.

Cheapest so far for me.

Just rang Adrian Fluxx re'  my renewal stated what I'd been quoted elsewhere and that I had and increased the mileage by 3k on that quote, they have now increased my mileage and  dropped the price to 10 X insts of £34 with declared mods.

Why couldn't they just do it in the first place.

Glad we got you a saving then!

Have got both cars (Nissan 100NX and Octavia Scout) insured with Chris Knott / Briskoda for the same as just the Scout last year. :) :)

Because they want as much money out of you as possible - standard business practice.

I'm also having a problem understanding why my quotes are so high. I'm trying to insure a skoda superb elegance 2.0tdi 170 estate. I'm 51 never had any claims, clean licence etc.

The best so far has been Chris Knott, but only beating the comparison websites by £20 and I'm still reading all the small print to compare like for like (europe cover, audio cover etc) to find out which to go for.

I just re-insured my porsche 911 turbo and the cost is about the same. Considering what group the porsche must be in, its value and the way most (not mine) are driven I cannot fathom the reasoning in making the superb so costly to insure.

With 2 cars have you tried the multi car option?

Just one question for those with not a lot of NCB- have you tried putting an aged relative with a decent record on the policy. They may never drive the car, but they can help lower the price. up until a couple of years ago,  I saved my daughter over £150 a year by being a named driver . Admittedly I did drive the car. On one occasion i saved her & SIL a lot of cash as they went on holiday. I drove them to airport, drove car to mine, used it for the week they were abroad and picked them up (shattered) from airport and drove them home.
