57 plate Octavia II 2.0 TDI Estate - wing mirror indicator blinking very quickly

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have had some very helpful advice from kind people on here in the past, so I am hoping to do so again please.

I have noticed that my off side wing mirror indicator is very rapidly blinking. I have had a good search around on here and have not seen the same issue.

Puddle lights are working fine, as are all other lights, but I am concerned about the rapid blinking of this indicator. This blinks at a much more rapid rate than the indicators at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Any ideas or advice would be gratefully received.

Never heard of that one before!

Faster flashing of the indicators usually represents a blown bulb, but if as you say the front and rear indicators are all working as normal then this can't be the issue?

Could be water in the light. The mirror indicator is a sealed led unit. It would be interesting to see if a fault is logged.

Thanks for the comments so far, but I don't have any way of checking the fault codes. Happy to purchase the relevant kit if someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction. Not happy to get it into the garage over such a fault as yet ...

There is a list on here of people who have VCDS, see if there is anyone local to you.

As Silver mentions, usually indicates (get it, Lol) another blown bulb.

Is your near side repeater fine???

Near side repeater is fine. Off side repeater is flashing two flashes for every one of the main indicator.

Should I have two rear foglights or just one? Have one on off side, not near side and assume this is how it should be.

Fog lights are correct.

Oh does the wing mirror repeater look OK? No dirt or moisture in it?

Looks OK to me (dark now so hard to tell). Keen to get this sorted quickly as I am travelling to France on Saturday morning!

Well either there is an issue with the central electrics controller (or it might be the central convenience controller) or the repeater. Easy enough job to change the repeater.

Is the central convenience controller within the drivers door? Does it also control the central locking? If so, I had to replace that on my previous octavia.

No, it's in the dash.

Ok, thanks.

Is the repeater the best way to go first then?

Is this what I want: eBay item no.290934038930?

If so, will I need to use the puddle light bulb from my current unit, as I have read that they don't come with a bulb, just the LEDs for the repeater?

Ok, thanks.

Looks right. Mine doesn't have puddle lights so I don't know about the bulb.

Great, thanks. Will give that a go first then.

£43.99 (+vat) quoted for genuine part from main dealer.

EBay part does not accommodate puddle light.

Any suggestions for a non-genuine and cheaper part would be much appreciated.

Genuine Skoda, £30.00 delivered from here, including puddle light, but this is the passenger / nearside...

This is an O/S one without the puddle light but is listed by Rainworth Skoda in Mansfield, they run www.skodaparts.com and will almost definately be cheaper than your local main delaer...

Thanks very much, will give them a go.

As standard the Octavia only comes with the offside rear fog light active. it is an easy job on a 57 plate pre-facelift car to activate with VCDS diagnostics.

Is there a guide how to do this?

Whilst I am at it, is there a guide how to replace the repeater with puddle light?

IIRC Angle the mirror down, pull it off, detach wires.

Undo the three? screws which hold the mirror adjuster in and remove.

Then there are two torx? screws, undo these and the light unit comes out unplug and replace.

When you put the mirror back in make sure the two metal prongs on the back of the mirror go into the slots in the housing or the mirror won't move correctly.

Thanks. Remember reading pretty much the same thing. Will give it a go when I get the part.
