Morning guys,

 

I've been a way a while after an experiment in QQ land and i'm thinking about coming back to the world of Yeti.

Probably looking at a 140 or 170 BHP used elegance just before the facelift around a late 63 plate (prefer the old "look").

Is there anything particular about those engine groups (with haldex) that i need to be aware of?

I was happy with the Yeti that i had previously, and it had no issues to speak of but things move on / come out of the woodwork.

 

I'm obviously going to hunt back through the forum but it's always nice to get some direct feedback.

My 12 plate 170 continues to give good service after a hard 43,000 miles.

No major problems, other than waiting until it was three years old before developing an Air-Con leak and the passenger dash vent jamming.

Try a test drive in the latest 150 tdi SEL.There are some very good deals on at the moment.

Otherwise I'd go straight for a late 170 TDI every time.(with a visit to Shark.) ;)

No problems with my May '12 plate 170 now just on 44,500 miles. I've had a couple of heated seat failures, and the paint blisters/zinc inclusion issue, but neither of those relates to the engine or drive train.

Tempted but i'll be taking a bit of a bath on the QQ as it is so going new is probably a push.

I also prefer the original face of the car, although that wouldn't be a deal killer.

99k miles in my 10reg 140.

Couple of minor problems; 2 broken rear springs, one injector seal failed, and the air con compressor has packed in, but at that mileage I'm not complaining.

My remapped 170 is now on 60k miles.

Previous owner had AC compressor replaced under warranty.

Only things since have been failure of the heated seat base element (pretty common), and the cracked EGR pipe (see other thread) which I think this is pretty rare.

 

If you're looking at anything with some mileage, check the Haldex oil has been changed.

 

Also - when my car was in having the EGR pipe replaced - at an independent VAG specialist - they did mention they're changing quite a few EGR valves/coolers on the VAG CR engines.

Can be very labour intensive to replace, especially on 4wd models.

Car in question i'm keen on is on low 20K miles.

It is a 4x4 170bhp but they have a 140bhp which is similar in both mileage / age / price so i'm just trying to get a rough idea of if the engines / transmissions have much of anything different "weakness" wise between them.

I remember the heated seat bases historically having problems, my previous ones didn't fail but i never really used them much anyway.

 

The only other bit i remember was the 16" vs 17" debate - i think plumber was the champion of that?

 

Appreciate the info, especially abouy the EGR pipe.

Springs i take as a fact of life on the "quality" roads these days it seems.

This might not be a go anyway.

 

The dealer took the proverbial on both ends of the deal(s) he offered sadly.

 

Wanted too much for the Yeti  (i.e. no discount and it's a touch over priced vs the market) and lowballed me on the QQ by a serious margin.

I don't mind someone taking a slice at one end of a deal but not at both ends.
