Fitting an Ipod with Connects2

Featured Replies

After using the griffin itrip for several months the sound quality has become very poor. Lots of distortion and interference.

After re-searching the available options I have chosen to go with the connects2 adapter. The denison ice link being too expensive.

With the connects2 you can charge the ipod and change tracks using the fwd/rev buttons on the symphony HU.

Ordered 2 from Halfords. 1 for me and 1 for the girlfriend. Cost of

£53 from halfords cool. Can only find it on the web for £100+

What does the kit include? Do you get everything you need?

Well been to the local halfrauds. Gave them the part number. They checked it up and yes. £50 ish. But yet I can't find it theat cheap on the web. Makes a change. So ordered it. Should get it Monday.

In answer to faboka vrs. You get two small boxes about the size of a fag packet each. A connector that links the first box to your HU, 2 leads that connect the 1st box to the 2nd box and then another lead approx 50-70cm long to connect the 2nd box to your ipod. Its all pretty straight forward and does 90% of what the Denison icelink does except it's half the price. The only thing is that if you want a cradle for it they are extra. I think the connects2 passive cradle is about £23 ish.

Cheers

I've had a quick google and can't find much in the way of details on the Connects2 box. The official website isn't much help and the pdf downloads seem to be broken.

I've used the Blaupunkt and Alpine iPod adaptors and wasn't very impressed. First six playlists on the Blaupunkt and the sheer slowness and inability to find anything in under 15 minutes on the Alpine make them too frustrating.

How does the Connects2 work? Can you still use the controls on the iPod itself?

Cheers bigarn.

Picked it up from halford the next day. Trial fitted it yesterday (xmas present) Works great. Just what i wanted for half the price of the dension. Just need to purchase a braket and find away of fitting the 2 boxes and cables behind the heater controls.

Magic Boy. You can still use all the ipod controls as normal. The connects2 box only lets you skip forward and back through playlist and album tracks. You can't switch between actual playlists or albums via the HU

Bigarn,

nice one - thanks. :D

I'll be off to Halfords tonight to try and order one.

doh! paid

Seems a lot of money still!

I paid a couple of quid for a phono type cable and just plugged the IPOD straight into the back of the headunit (oe type navigation)

Obviously I cant control the IPOD from the headunit but it just sits nicely in the cup holder in the Superb so it doesn't bother me!

Thats the advantage of having an aux input.

There isn't an Aux input on the Fabia Symphony. The only way of getting one is with an adaptor box that fools the CD Changer input into thinking there's a CD changer attached like the VAGX1 or the VWCDPIC.

I take it this can't be used if there is already a changer in place then?

double wire the pins in and only use one or the other at any one given time.

Just been to Halfords.

Collared a bloke and after a load of searching on the computer he found the part number. The price appears to have gone up however.... now £84.99.

I've ordered one in anyway - still seems decent value for money.
